About the map data

The map is a visualization layer for atlas data. Cartographic geometry is not an independent source of administrative-territorial information.

Boundary profiles

Administrative boundary representation may differ depending on the cartographic dataset and deployment profile in use.

A boundary profile determines the geometry used for map visualization and does not modify food seasonality data.

Directory and geometry

A region may exist in the Seasonal Food Atlas directory even when its geometry is temporarily unavailable in the current cartographic dataset.

The absence of a map polygon does not mean that the region is absent from the atlas.

Some regions may be temporarily unavailable on the map for technical reasons.

Map methodology

Region visualization uses the Natural Earth cartographic dataset.

Classification and names of regions in the atlas may differ from the source cartographic dataset classification.

In some cases, geometry of an administrative unit is mapped to a region in the atlas internal geographic catalog without manually altering the source boundaries.

Directory and seasonality

The presence of a region on the map or in the atlas does not mean that seasonality data has already been collected for it.

Seasonality coverage is expanded gradually.

How to report an error

Inaccuracies in seasonality, a product description, a source, or how a region is displayed can be reported at seasonalfoodatlas@gmail.com. If possible, include the product, the region, and a source that would help refine the data.
