Bog cranberry (Vaccinium oxycoccos; in some sources Oxycoccus palustris) is a trailing evergreen dwarf shrub in the heath family. Thin stems creep over sphagnum; leaves are small and leathery. The fruit is a bright red, distinctly sour berry. It grows on sphagnum bogs, mires and in waterlogged boreal forests. This is not the large American cranberry (Vaccinium macrocarpon).
Cranberries are eaten fresh in modest amounts and more often processed into mors (berry drinks), juices, jam and other preserves, sauces, and dessert or baking uses. Their strong acidity shapes the flavour of prepared foods; the berries keep well in water and sugar packs.

Lingonberry is not described in this slug.
